As a recent transplant to Colorado from Iowa, I'm enjoying the many sunny days and beautiful mountains (not that Iowa isn't a great place). I'm excited to be part of the BTEC staff and to teach the Teacher Cadet program. I taught many years of middle school and high school Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) courses in Ankeny, Iowa. Through FCS courses, students learn valuable life skills through hands-on, authentic learning activities - a perfect match to BTEC's philosophy of educating students for future careers.
My original home was a small, do-it-all farm in south eastern South Dakota near the friendly little village of Meckling. Even though our local school was extremely small (six in my class), we did have a few great teachers that inspired me to pursue teaching as a career. I received a BS degree from South Dakota State University, an MS degree from Iowa State University, plus many more credits from various institutions in continuing education.
For many years, we lived in Huxley, Iowa, just south of Ames. Since moving to Colorado, I've enjoyed sight-seeing, hiking, skiing, and camping with family and friends. The only thing I haven't had good luck with here is gardening and fly fishing. I haven't caught a fish yet, and the tomatoes are few and far between. Any hints??
