Program Overview :

Teacher Cadet II is for students who successfully completed the first year of Teacher Cadet and are furthering their studies of a future career in education. The curriculum was developed by Colorado certified Teacher Cadet instructors and trainers. BTEC is one of the first schools in Colorado to offer a second year of Teacher Cadet.

Cadets complete an extended field experience assisting an Adams 12 teacher and their students.  The hands-on experience will not only help the teachers, but give the Cadets a greater understanding of what a future career in education entails. Students participate in training seminars once a week to discuss methods of teaching core subjects, handling behavior situations, and using technology as a learning tool.

The culminating project is a professional portfolio of the student's experiences.

Field Experience: The student and instructor will work together to determine the school and grade level for the field experience. To gain a well-rounded view of a career in education, students will experience a different work site each semester. The Cadet needs to provide his/her own transportation to the work site. All Cadets are expected to sign and adhere to a Confidentiality Agreement.

College Connections: All Colorado Community Colleges recognize credit for Teacher Cadet. UCD and UCCS do offer college credit for both Teacher Cadet I and II. Some four year Colorado colleges recognize Teacher Cadet II student's field hours as evidenced by the Cadet's professional portfolio. At this time,Cadets are encouraged to work with their college advisor on an individual basis to receive credit for field hours. For more information please contact Ms. Less or view the college pages on the Teacher Cadet power point .

FCCLA: Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is the career student organization that is an important and integeral part of Teacher Cadet. Second year Cadets participate in FCCLA activities during weekly seminar time. Some activities might be planned to take place outside of school time. Second year Cadets are encouraged to take a leadership role at the local, district, state and/or national levels.
